CAWT (Campaign Against Wind Turbines at Fullabook Down) is the name of the group of local residents who have got together to put forward their views.

There have been previous groups formed to put these views forward for previous applications in the same area.

For the last two applications, the group was called the West Down and Bittadon Anti Wind Turbine Group

Originally, the group was formed due to the overwhelming objection to these developments in a most beautiful and unique part of the United Kingdom.

The group was re-formed and re-named for this latest application.

There is nobody in the group who objects to helping to reduce the use of fossil fuels but to destroy such a landscape, cause stress to residents, cause loss of leisure amenity and possible loss of income in this area is unacceptable to a high percentage of local residents.

It is a fact that in other areas where similar developments have taken place property prices have immediately plummeted. Also, local people have had great difficulty in actually selling their property

This has been proved here in North Devon during previous applications where properties just did not sell until the application was finally refused.

CAWT directly represents about 1000 local residents with such strong feelings that they have donated to the CAWT fund to employ an experienced advocate to put their views and concerns forward in a professional way at the public enquiry.

The proposed site is unique in its position with a high density of dwellings per square Km compared with other rural areas where such developments are proposed and installed.

There are a high number of very old buildings, 100 to 300 years old) that give the local countryside a lot of its character. The older buildings, mostly, are in sheltered positions as they were built many years ago and are unobtrusive within the overall landscape.

This appeal

So far CAWT have raised about £7,500 to pay for a professional advocate to put the case forward on behalf objecting residents.  More funds still need to be raised, the total estimate is £11,500. With so much evidence now the enquiry is expected to carry on for at least 4 weeks and therefore the Group are asking for your help.

If you can donate, it will help considerably to present the case, if you have already donated - thank you.

It is the beautiful North Devon inheritance CAWT are fighting for.

If you are able to help, no matter how much, please make a cheque payable to CAWT and post it to the address above, you can deliver them or cash to Ash Barton, Ash, Braunton, or give them to any member of the CAWT group.
